Velayudham

Velayudham (Tamil: வேலாயுதம்) is an upcoming Tamil superhero film directed by M. Raja. It stars Vijay and Genelia D'Souza playing the lead roles while Hansika Motwani and Saranya Mohan portray other pivotal roles. The film was formally launched on July 15, 2010 with its photo shoots taken earlier during the month. Produced by V. Ravichandran's Aascar Films. The film is currently in its post production stage and expected to release on June 22, 2011.

* With Vijay wrapping up the shooting of Kaavalan fast on heels, it was announced that producer V. Ravichandran planning to release the movie for Vijay's birthday on June. The film was formally launched on July 15, 2010 with its photo shoots taken earlier during the month. The shooting of the film completed within short span of time as Vijay had no big projects much before the release of Kaavalan.

Controversy

The film has been widely reported to be a remake of the 2000 Telugu film Azad that starred late Soundarya as a journalist and Akkineni Nagarjuna as a villager, incidentally the roles essayed by Genelia D'Souza and Vijay, respectively. Director M. Raja, however, who so far has been making remakes only, claims that it's not a remake, but his own story.
